Swedish Border Adventure

Print
  • Duration 3 days
  • Distance 450 km
  • Suitable for Adults

The areas of Ylitornio, Pello and Kolari are on the national border with Sweden, by the Tornionjoki-river, the longest free-flowing river in Europe.

Blessed with the beauty of the thick dark forests combined with the fast stream, it is also rich of culture and history. The expedition of Moreau de Maupertuis in 1736 has been here to prove the flattening of the Earth and to verify the theoretical calculations by Newton. A participant in the expedition was also Anders Celsius, a Swedish physicist, constructor of world famous thermometer.
Simply by crossing the bridge, we leave Finland behind and continue the journey on the Kingdom of Sweden territory. Different from Finland, it is allowed to ride on snowmobile freely on the landscapes without the official trails. So called Free Ride practices are becoming more and more popular among the snowmobiling fans.
The round trip takes us finally back to Finland and we will return to Rovaniemi from the other direction. Overnight stay is in the local wilderness cabins with sauna, all meals included!

For all the activities including snowmobiling we ask you to take your driving licenses with you. Also copy and photos are suitable.
