The Icebreaker cruise is a unique Arctic experience on the Gulf of Bothnia. The union of the majestic steel, ice and sea will be unlike anything else you’ve ever experienced. You can hear the sound of crackling ice and see ice blocks rising from dark waters. In the beginning of winter the ice is only 30-50 cm thick, but after a month it could reach up to 2 meters.

Our tour starts with a 2 hour bus transfer to icebreaker harbour in Sweden. The border between Finland and Sweden is only 120 km away from Rovaniemi city.

After arriving to Swedish village of Kalix, you’ll have a short stop for lunch break and some free time. Depending of your travel date the lunch can take place before or after the icebreaker tour. During the cruise we will have a guided tour on the majestic icebreaker to see its impressive engines and hear more about the specifics of the Arctic icebreakers. As a highlight of the tour – you will be swimming in the frozen sea! Don’t worry, it is totally safe, you will be wearing survival dry-suit and won’t be getting wet or cold. At the end of the cruise you will receive certificate from the captain as a memorable gift and transfer will take you back to Rovaniemi.

Duration of the cruise is 3 hours.
Duration of the whole day trip is about 9 hours including transfers.
