Building for the Future: Juha Välikangas Joins Wild Nordic Finland as Field Manager

Continuing our dedicated efforts to provide premier outdoor activities and safaris in Finnish Lapland, we are pleased to welcome Juha Välikangas to our team in his new role as Field Manager. With a knowledgeable background and an eagerness to embrace opportunities, Juha shares a bit of his story, his responsibilities and his visions for Wild Nordic Finland.

I have been working for almost 15 years at Finland’s largest snowmobile retailer & dealership, serving many tourism companies as customers, and in doing so I have had to learn a lot about the industry to better understand the needs of our customers. In Lapland, snowmobiles are widely used for work, such as reindeer herding, husky farms, and, of course, snowmobile safaris. The safaris and tourism are also in my blood, as my grandfather was involved in establishing Rovaniemi’s very first reindeer farm for tourists in 1985. I was involved in activities there from a young age and received my first reindeer driving license at the age of 5.

My spouse, Inka, owns Wild Nordic Finland; and after a little brainstorming together, we decided to join forces and work together to develop the best safari company in Lapland, establishing ourselves as the pinnacle of snowmobiling activities. I can foresee a wealth of opportunities and positive developments for this company and the local communities in which we operate. I am excited for the possibility to create experiences for our customers for years to come.

At Wild Nordic, I work as a Field Manager, which means I am responsible for outdoor activities and equipment. My thorough understanding of snowmobiles, and how to drive them, will certainly help the company stand out from the rest. I am also a multi-time snowmobile champion in different sports such as Snowcross, Enduro, and Hillclimb. I am confident that I can bring a wealth of new ideas to the table for different safaris, and I also want to focus on safe driving for guides and customers. In addition to my duties as Field Manager, I am closely involved in future planning and financial matters.

Tourism has grown exponentially in Rovaniemi, with new heights being achieved with every passing year. I believe that, as with all trends, this could level off at some point, but tourism in Lapland will never end. It’s great that so many foreign visitors have realized that Lapland is also a wonderful place in the summer, thanks to its clean nature, temperate climb, and midnight sun.In the future, I want to focus our efforts on expanding summer tourism. We have already developed some fantastic new summer programs for next summer, where customers can experience Finnish activities, just like the locals do. On my own trips abroad, I have always been interested in how the locals live and what they do. Unfortunately, there have been very few such activities on offer, which is why I would like to offer these experiences to foreign guests, including things like cottage life, cottage games, and going to the traditional Finnish sauna.

I really enjoy snowmobiling, and I believe that I can safely show guests the best places and most beautiful scenery in Lapland by snowmobile. I want to offer customers wonderful experiences that they can remember for the rest of their lives.

Could there be a better job for a snowmobiler? I think not.

Field Manager, Juha Välikangas, is an avid snowmobile enthusiast and industry professional; hoping to bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to his new role with Wild Nordic Finland.
