Duration: approx. 7 hours
Destination: Rovaniemi
Korouoma is 30-kilometres long and up to 130-meters deep canyon fracture valley located 110 kilometres south-east of Rovaniemi. It offers breathtaking scenery all year, with cliffs, rapids and waterfalls. This natural reserve is also home to rare species, and a great nature area for hikers.
After a 1 hour 30 minute drive to Korouoma Canyon it is time to head out for a hike in the nature reserve. There, one can enjoy the incredible peaceful atmosphere of local forests and depending on the time of the year, one can observe all the colours and shades the Arctic nature offers, from the fresh greens of the spring and summer months to the fiery reds and oranges of the Autumn months.
During the hike with a bit of luck, you may even spot tracks made by wolves, lynx, wolverines, moose, reindeer, weasels or Arctic hare.
Approximately halfway through the hike a stop is made to enjoy a light campfire lunch, with the guide teaching you the skills to make and light the fire without matches. The lunchtime break is also a great moment for your guide to share their passion and knowledge and answer all your questions about nature, Lapland and life in the Arctic.
