3 Days in Rovaniemi: A Complete First-Time Visitor Guide
Rovaniemi is a great introduction to Finnish Lapland, especially for first-time visitors. The city is easily accessible and has everything you need for a first Arctic trip, while still being surrounded by the snowy forests, frozen landscapes and nature that bring many travellers to Lapland. It can be a good starting point for experiencing the Arctic before venturing further north and exploring more remote parts of Finnish Lapland.
Three days is enough to experience many of Rovaniemi’s highlights without trying to fit everything into one packed schedule. You can combine outdoor activities such as snowmobiling, snowshoeing and ice fishing with visits to Santa Claus Village, a reindeer farm and local museums. There is also time to explore the city, try Finnish food and enjoy the surrounding winter scenery.
The best time to visit Rovaniemi depends on what you want from your trip. December brings a festive atmosphere and plenty of Christmas activities, while January and February offer snowy winter landscapes and good conditions for a range of outdoor activities. In March, the days are getting longer and there is still usually plenty of snow for winter experiences.
