Snowmobile Safari with Ice Fishing Experience
Starting from 189,00 € / person
Available: January – March
Duration: 3 hours
Total time from your holiday: approximately 4,5 h (including transfers, dressing, safety/driving instructions and tour)
Destination: Rovaniemi
Try two Lapland classics in one afternoon: snowmobiling and ice fishing, combined into a single 3-hour safari that captures how locals actually spend a winter day off. After the usual gear-up and briefing, you’ll ride out through forest trails toward one of the region’s frozen lakes or rivers, the kind of spot that’s often invisible from the road and only reachable by snowmobile.
Once you arrive, your guide walks you through the basics of ice fishing: drilling a hole through the thick ice with an auger, setting up your line, and finding the patience that the sport demands. There’s something distinctly peaceful about standing on a frozen lake in near-silence, jigging your line and waiting to feel a bite, especially after the noise and motion of the ride out. No previous fishing experience is needed — full instruction is included, and guides are on hand to help with technique.
If you’re lucky enough to land a fish, the day comes full circle: your catch gets cooked over an open fire right there on the ice, turning a successful afternoon into an actual meal. Whether or not the fish cooperate, you’ll also enjoy traditional Finnish sausages grilled over the same fire and hot drinks to keep you warm during the extended time spent outdoors — worth noting for anyone traveling with very young children, as this tour involves more stationary time in the cold than our shorter safaris.
